My experience was very good! From the beginning, everything was well organized and I got all information I needed. The team from Language International was really professional and answered all my questions. In Amman, I stayed with a very nice couple that lived only a few minutes away from the school - that was really convenient! Ahlan Language School is so nice, my teachers were really good and even though I only had one to one classes for one week I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend it! Besides classes, the school offered a lot of other activities like an Arabic sign language course for free. The schools facilities are really good - everything has AC, toilets are clean and you can have lunch at school every day for little money.

The teachers and staff are all superb, very efficient and available. The class sizes are small and the teachers make a real effort to adapt the class level and speed of delivery. The overall atmosphere in the school is very friendly with staff, teachers and students forming good bonds. There is also an excellent program of activities organised on evenings and weekends by Ahlan staff which promotes cohesion.
After only 3 days at the school I had already decided that I will come back in the near future.
Dear Zoe, thank you very much for your great review! We are very happy that you enjoyed your time at Ahlan Jordan and looking forward to seeing you again soon!!
Classes were good, but pupils in them changed frequently.
Theacher was competent, inspiring, humorous and suitable firm.
Location and facilitied were fine.
Avtivities were amazing.
Housing was ok, we ran out of water s few times. That was unpractical, but understandable,
Dear Tor,
Thank you very much for your stay with us, at Ahlan Jordan! We hope to see you soon, with a full water tank!
Thank you Ahlan World Jordan for 2 amazing weeks. Everything was organized very well and it’s a proper small school which I didn’t know what to expect before I joined. School is in great location and facilities as classroom, garden, sitting lounge were very good. Vibe in the school was very positive and everyone was welcoming. Groups were well matched when it comes to knowledge levels and teachers were clear and patient in teaching and communication. When we discussed about some changes me and my group wanted to make about the classes it was well received from the school managers and was adjusted to our wishes. I loved how in the school there was lunch for a very affordable price and I didn’t need to bring my food or go out to buy it. There were always snacks in the kitchen and tea. I would love to come again and recommend to everyone who is learning Arabic to attend this school. I stayed 2 weeks but I think it was not enough. School always organized some activities for us which is was very appreciated. In the school everyone was helpful with all kind of tips and advices. Amazing area where the school is located. I chose home stay during my school and it was good decision. Generally it was a very positive experience and I would love to do it again.
Only think I didn’t like much was if school program was more adjusted for students who are staying short time, for example someone who is staying 2 weeks and someone who is staying 2 months shouldn’t follow the same lectures and pace. If you have 2 months you can read and go over one lesson for 2 or 3 days and if you are in 2 weeks course it should be more everyday topics and not spending a lot of time on some not very common topics, like old tales full of words which are mostly used in tales and stories.
Hi Mina, thank you very much for your positive review! We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you soon back at Alan Jordan!
Teachers are really nice and I appreciate them a lot!
The managers were good about responding promptly when I asked for help with class content.
I didn't know the housing were not separated, so me and my friends were surprised.
I hope that they explain that in advance.
Ahlan World goes out of their way to create a community of learners both interested in learning Arabic and more about culture and community in Jordan. It was a privilege to learn with the Ahlan World community and their engaged and dedicated teachers.

I attended MSA and Jordanian dialect classes for a period of two weeks in September 2023 in Ahlan World Jordan. I cannot fault anything I experienced. I got picked up by a private driver at the airport upon prior arrangement and dropped off at a booked student accommodation, which was a spacious room in a clean, looked-after 2-bedroom apartment shared with another student. I studied intensive classes. All teachers I had were reliable, experienced and excellent educators (I vouch for Eman, Mona and Wa'id) and no classes were cancelled or postponed. My desire to study Jordanian dialect developed throughout my stay and the admin staff were able to arrange this new study option without delays. Lunch was provided at the school for 1-3 JOD, mostly consisting of rice dishes. Staff responsible for entertainment organised a number of trips outside Amman and also in-town activities - I only partook in the latter, which I truly enjoyed. Had I never previously studied overseas at a similar school, I was cautious before booking, but I can guarantee to any upcoming students that this is not a scam and they will have a great time. Amman is a safe city for women, including souvenirs have a tag without inflated prices, which can still be negotiated, and Amman residents love to have a chat in Arabic. I recommend all women to cover up, it is still a Muslim country as any shorts or sleeveless tops are frown upon and in my opinion are inappropriate in this wonderful, loving culture.

The school is a great balance of skilled young and approachable teachers, and lots of fun activities and trips. The school is also flexible in scheduling and adjusting you and your perfect level for best results. The team is really great and all students I can in contact with were also satisfied. I have to recommend it!

I enjoyed my stay very much. I paid for MSA course, which I received. I had even individual afternoon lessons (depended on the number of people on the same level). Almost every day we had afterschool activities, if we as a students had any idea, Ahmad did manage to fulfill them. We were travelling a lot, having dinners together, we even were invited to a wedding, which was something very amazing for me. My overall impression is great. Teachers was also great, their method is to always continue with the book. So every teacher knew where we finished last lesson and he continued from that point. So called language activities which I had as an afternoon lesson, could be more fun, if the teacher would prepare them better.
I stayed in my own accommodation, so no commentary here. Due to the terrain of Amman, I would emphasize to other student to stay in Jabal Weibdeh area, where the school is located.
Communication regarding afterschool activities is going through Whatsapp groups and is very efficient.
I have payed for 3 weeks for intensive course. Fusha 3 hours + Jordan Colloqial 2 hours. After my first week, I felt that I was confused to have both. As I need talking more, I decided to switch to full Jordan Colloquial and stop fusha. The administration accepted my request and gave me 3 hours private lessons (3x5 =15 hours) instead of 3 hours group lessons. I didn't ask for private lectures and the total hours. Wanted just to switch. But a week later I was told that I had to pay 260 USD, as I had to pay the difference between group and private lectures and as I had experienced teacher. I was shocked, even though I clearly understand that private lectures will be more expensive, and so experienced teacher, nothing was told me in advance.
The administration should tell students in advance in case of any change, give them choices, and leave them the decision. If that would told me before, I would not get 3 hours private, instead 1.5, and maybe also trainee teachers.
The money I payed was for 20 hours private. So I had 5 hours for my 4 th. week and studied each day one hour.
I had in total 6 teachers, 5 of them were great. I can say that the school has great teacher. The level of education was much better than I expected.
The teaching material consist just a book, with many English mistakes, should be reviewed. But easy to follow. I wish to have listening activities, videos etc. That was missing.
Location of the course is great, easy accessible.
Classes were max 5 students, which is great!
Course arrange activities, mostly dinner and excursions, which I find quite expensive. This is a kind of travel agency mentality.
The planned airport transfer was unfortunately forgotten. This was so bad and caused complications. I was told that some other students experienced the same.
I do advise the school, but would advise future students to ask for the price of anything, in case of any change to ask about details, and if possible to keep written conversation. "No worries " is a common answer but not always true. Please make a B plan in case you order Airport transfer by the school!
My Arabic is improved a lot , which was the aim anyway!
family like atmosphere, nice staff, great teachers, everyone was so supportive and Open minded. We had really deep talks about language and Culture and even though i only stayed two weeks, it felt like a family. They were very keen on finding a solution that fits our needs. A truly can recommend this school.
It is located in a good and absolutely safe neighborhood with a lot of modern restaurants and shops.
They offer Lunch simple and local food for a bargain. So u dont have to spend a lot of money on that.
There are also a lot of activities and trips for a really fair price or even for free.
There is really nothing to complain about. It‘s a full Jordan experience, full of wonderful people.
The school is located in a fun area full of great cafes. They serve lunch daily and it’s easy to get to know other students, they also provide housing at a fair price which respells when you are new. The director Ahmad is very friendly and helpful at solving problems and organizing excursions. Most students focus on MSA ( standard) and are happy with the teachers. However the classes for studying Jordanian dialect are not always as satisfactory. On the higher levels of Jordanian dialect the only thing offered is just conversation, the lessons are not structured and leave a lot to be desired, although I think that the beginner level of dialect is probably good… Overall I recommend the school and I’m very glad I chose it.
I booked extremely late and the school was very accommodating, to make everything possible, to still fit me into their schedule. I had classes with 3 different teachers, that used different approaches which was great, as that way even 4 hours of lessons a day did not get boring.
In addition, given I had mentioned I wanted to do Syrian Arabic, one of the teachers was Syrian and the Host family was also half Syrian.
In the school there were regular joint breaks and a very good value joint lunch, so that it was possible to meet all the other students and not feel alone, even if you were (like me) taking private lessons.
In addition the school organized outings, evening activities and had a whats-app group in case you just wanted to connect to have dinner together.
My host family was also very nice, just a bit cold in winter as most houses in Jordan do not have proper heating.
I can definitely recommend this school, especially to a solo learner that wants to have social interaction, while learning at an extremely individualized pace.
I appreciated the flexibility of the school in the initial lessons which enabled the correct placement of students and provision for suitable content. My teachers were gracious, friendly and specialists in their field.
Classes are very good and Ahlan school is located in a convenient place. Both teachers and staff at school are kind and try to always help me. The school offers many activities during weekdays and weekends. I’m planning to go again on next March.
세부사항 표시 » 더 읽어보기...great people, great teachers, bit bad with time management but nice extra curricular and really interactive classes
I like the atmosphere in the school, i like the fact that teachers don’t like to speak in english unless it’s necessary : it helps a lot in learning a new language , the flat was good ( facilities and services were ok , nothing wrong) , i lived with nice roommates
Hard Work . Patience from the teachers. Il was a drill for Arabic and humility. I hope to go on Arabic all the year by myself after this beginning.
I really loved the school. The teachers were amazing and the classes effective. My Arabic developed enormously - like a language flower had opened inside of me. The classes were lots of fun as well, interesting discussions. I liked the evening activities as well. Everything in the school worked well. It was also inspiring to meet Arabic students around the world - we do share the same passion.
Jordan is a very interesting country and there is lots to see. History, culture and sun!
To live in a host family was nice, I got to speak Arabic at home as well :) But the quality of living is not what we in Europe are used to. Noisy, quite dirty, no privacy, water problems, no breakfast. But the family was kind and helpful.
The classes at Ahlan Jordan were good. I only did the JCA classes, because I don’t speak MSA and I do have to say that it’s hard sometimes because the teachers would just say what a JCA word was in MSA without explaining it so if you don’t know MSA it could be hard. I sometimes felt that the MSA speakers got more attention from the teachers as well. The teachers are good, but sometimes got impatient if you don’t immediately understand something. The school is located in a great area and the accommodation was nice. The activites planned by the school were really awesome and overall I had a good experience.
Great teachers, great school and amazing trips on the weekend. Everybody tried to do his best for everyone. I would love to go there again!
Everything in school, from the day of arrival until my last day, was great. The organisation was well structured and the office was always helpfull with every special wishes for classes (I had one-to-one). My hostfamily was great and the school tried to make my experience with them as intensive and positive as possible. Also the teachers are professional, well prepaired and in the same time it was everyday not just hard work, also a lot of fun in my classes. This made me learning fast and easily! There are also a lot of possibilities to join activities from school and share time and experiences with all the other students. All in all I am totally happy with my experience in this school and I will, for sure, go back there to improve my arabic skills more and more :)

I attended a month-long course in Amman, at Ahlan Jordan School. Based on my experience I strongly recommend to choose this school if you want to study Arabic in the Middle East.
Once I arrived a driver picked me up at the airport and toke me to my host family. They were just simply amazing, I am so grateful that they accommodated me as another family member. They were nice, welcoming and really supportive. We had some lovely programs together. Mama Fahmiyye is the best
Ahlan World is an organized and smooth running service in which Iliana helped me to organise my scheduled experience in Amman, after discussing schools in both Morocco and Egypt.
I had a fantastic time in Amman. The facilities were amazing, the social activity program was awesome, and the people working for Ahlan are all fantastic souls. They made my experience a great one!
The teaching at Ahlan is fantastic, with teachers giving an authentic cultural immersion in both the Arabic language and the culture that has developed the language over the years. Students are carefully placed with teachers and other students based on their levels, and from there, the positive experience of learning the science of the language began, then swiftly moving onto communicative games with other students.
This experience bettered my skills in Arabic, but I also learned a few tips from my teachers to take into my own lessons!
I highly advise visiting Ahlan Jordan!
From April 29 to May 24, 2018, I studied Arabic at Ahlan Jordan school, in Amman. I had originally signed up for three weeks, but the quality of teaching and support was such that I decided to stay an additional week.
I took their intensive package, which includes modern standard Arabic (fusra) in the morning, and spoken Arabic (amiyeh) in the afternoon. After a placement test on my first day, I was assigned to level 2 (out of 8) in both fusra and amiyeh.
In the fusra class, we were 4 students most of the time. Our two teachers were two charming women working in close collaboration, using a methodology based on Al-Kitab which was was both rigorous and fun, including grammar, free conversation, various exercises designed to foster vocab memorization, and listening practice based on videos. But for a few explanations in English, fusra was spoken throughout, with extreme care on the part of the teachers to go slowly and check at every step that they were properly understood by everyone.
The amiyeh class in the afternoon comprised between 2 and 4 students. It was also given by two different teachers, this time two young men, also charming and funny. The teaching style was less systematic with relatively little grammar (except verb conjugation that was given a lot of attention) and a focus on vocabulary and conversation. The course handouts were a little crappy; for example the vocab lists did not always indicate the plural of nouns. Being a grammatically-minded person, I would have preferred a more structured approach. But this is a small reservation, given the amount that I nevertheless learned in this class.
I enormously benefited from my stay in Amman. Having previously studied the language for only a year (of which only 6 weeks were intensive), I came to Amman with a strong inhibition to express myself in Arabic, which is now almost completely removed. I can now go in the streets, shop, talk to people at a very basic level, and enjoy it. Beyond the acquisition of new vocab and grammar (which did occur), this is the most significant result this month spent at Ahlan school.
Ahlan is not only remarkable by the quality of teaching. Great pains are taken to introduce students to the culture and the environment. Tours are organised on every week end, let either by Aziz, the school director, or Ahmad, a staff member, both highly informed and motivated to share there knowledge. With them, I visited Jerash, Madaba, and the desert castles, plus a hike in the nature (Wadi Mujib). I was invited to family meals, in particular iftar meals (Ramadan has started in the third week of my stay). A artist gave us a lesson on Arabic calligraphy.
In addition, the administrative staff is extremely effective, friendly, and makes a point of meeting, as best as possible, all particular demands from all students. The school has opted for great flexibility, allowing any student of any prior level in Arabic to arrive either at the beginning or the middle of any month throughout the year. Needless to say, the task of establishing weekly class schedules is not simple under these conditions, but it is performed admirably, thanks in particular to the organisational skills of Cristina, the administrative director. Indeed, during my whole stay at Ahlan, I have not observed a single glitch: classrooms were always assigned correctly and teachers always on time.
A final note on the accommodation: I stayed in a comfortable, clean, 3 bedrooms apartment rented by the school not far from its premises in Jabal-Al-Webdeh. All facilities worked properly, laundry machine and Wi-Fi included. The apartment was shared with a roommate. The price was reasonable (20 Jordanian dinars /day/person)
In summary, I tremendously enjoyed my stay at Ahlan Jordan, and my arabic greatly benefited from it. I highly recommend this school to anyone interested.
I loved the school. The programme was great! I took a test when I started there. I didn’t fit into any levels that was ongoing so I got a private teacher which was very good. They did everything to make it a good experience for me. I was there only two weeks but I did learn a lot! The housing was good. I lived very close to the school which was great. It was very social at school and the lunch they offered at school was good and cheap. The school was in very good area with lots of cafes and restaurants. I loved my stay in Amman at Ahlan World
The fact that this was my second stay with Ahlan Jordan maybe already speaks for itself. The school is located in a beautiful quarter of Amman, in walking distance to numerous cafés, restaurants, museums etc., but also close to Downtown and various tourist sites. Lessons are taught in classrooms that can fit small groups of students and are air-conditioned during summer and heated during winter. The highlight, however, is the backyard that invites to share lunch, have a cup of tea or stay around after class to have a chat with students and teachers. Both my teachers in MSA and JCA were very competent and caring, making me feel more than welcome in class. While I can strongly recommend the JCA classes in generel, I have to admit, though, that I would not recommend MSA classes for advanced language learners. Most of the school's materials seem tailored to students trying to improve their grammar, reading and writing skills, and not so much to students who are already rather fluent in MSA and trying to polish their style. In regard to organisational matters, I felt that the school had even improved since my last stay with Ahlan. Everything ran smoothly and all my requests were immediately addressed. I also stayed at one of the shared apartments offered by Ahlan and would recommend this offer to anyone who is not staying for an extended period of time. All in all my stay with Ahlan Jordan definitely reinforced my positive first impression of the school.
Teachers and very kind and friendly - but they are strict and will make you work hard! Which is a good thing, for me, anyway :) I also found the other students very friendly and very like minded. I wish I can go back there again in the future.
Ahlan Jordan is located in a beautiful, very western-style quarter of Amman that can easily be reached by shared or private taxi. Plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants as well as a bigger supermarket are nearby. The school is equipped with several classrooms, a very small study room, a kitchen and a wonderful backyard that invites to stay around after class to have a chat with fellow students and teachers or to enjoy lunch together. Classes were always kept a reasonable size and were perfectly adjusted to each student's level of Arabic (both Standard and Jordanien Arabic). My teachers were highly motivated and very commited to their job; they always tried to meet my needs and put all my requests to practice, and gave me the feeling that they cared about me as an individual and not just as one student out of many. Apart from classes, activities were organized both during the week and for the weekend, such as a welcome dinner, a special lunch together, a visit to famous tourist spots in Amman, cooking classes and one- or two-day trips to Jordan's most important sights (e.g. the Dead Sea, Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Jerash etc.). Most activities were offered for a reasonable price and were great opportunities to discover the beauty of Jordan and get to know fellow Ahlan students at the same time.
The two teachers that I had were wonderful and the combination of their teaching styles helped my knowledge of the Arabic-Jordanian vernacular to skyrocket. I always felt comfortable in class and the school was always anxious to help us wherever they could, especially Christina, the administrative head of the school - she did in general an awesome job.
The social activities were good, interesting and fun but there could have been more certainty in their organization, so there was a schedule for 1-4 weeks, but you never knew if something was definitely going to take place or not and sometimes the dates of two activities were changed on a short notice and the plan was alternated every now and then and in the end nobody had an idea anymore what the activities schedule looks like/would look like. This was a little bit annoying but in general I was satisfied with the activities that were offered.
All in all I can say that I really enjoyed my stay at Ahlan School and that I definitely benefited from the course. If I ever planned another language course in Amman, I would do it again at Ahlan.
I did only jordanian dialect classes. I did an intensive course with both and private lessons. The Teachers were overall good, some better than others. Some did not have very good English skills, but in the end it was not a big problem. The coordination of curriculum between the two private teachers was good, but there was no coordination between the Group and the private teachers, so there was a bit overlapping curriculum, sometimes in the same day.
However, the overall learning curve was very good. The location is Nice, but the facilities was a bit hot at times and it was easy to hear what was being taught in the next room.
The School provided a Nice optional lunch every day, and had several excursions etc during my time there. I did not join in on any of them, but my fellow students said they were good. I stayed in my own apartment, so I can't say anything about housing.
The classes were interesting with small groups. The teachers were different, but over all they were okay. It was difficult to memorize the new thing well enough, as I had lots of different classes.
The location was okay, though hard to find for taxi drivers.
The school is very good in arranging activities, though they are pretty expensive sometimes.
My personal experience at Ahlan Jordan was very nice and interesting.
Organization of the classes: very good. Communication with the students: Excellent.
I had advanced level classes with 3 other students which was perfect, even though it was a little bit above my knowledge of the Arabic language. A very good teacher, competent and I would say also sensitive, e.g. she never insisted when a student had a difficulty in understanding, reading, or expressing himself (this attitude is very positive in order not to discourage the person...)
The school, being rather small, helps to build a friendly atmosphere among students and teachers as well as with the staff. The possibility to have meals together also contributed to form a small community, to know each other, to exchange about various themes and to talk in Arabic.
For European standards I would say that they could improve a little bit the cleanliness, mainly outside where the students take their lunch. But I imagine that during the next month, when there are more students, also this aspect will get better.
Housing: I lived by my friends.
Training in Ahlan Jordan is the best, I went to this school more than once and plan to return! All the teachers were qualified specialists. It is always interesting during the lessons! In addition to the textbook with grammar, which was issued in the school, there were also additional materials! Classes were equipped with everything you need. The teachers were all native speakers, speak both literary and dialect! My experience in Ahlan Jordan is unforgettable, ideally you need to go there for at least 6 months, but even after a short training at school you will feel the difference! I am absolutely satisfied with everything! Christina is the school manager. She was always approachable and always ready to help. If you are thinking of going to Jordan to study Arabic or not , then I can safely say YES! The best school, of which I studied at.
I liked the school so much. The teachers were kind, friendly and tsught me well.
I think my Arabic has improved since I went to Amman and took Arabic class in this school.
Next vacation, I'd like to go back to Jordan and study Arabic there.
I can recommend this school to everyone.
I had two classes in the morning, one and a half hour each with two different teachers that complemented each other perfectly. I started from the beginning and I loved going to class because the teachers were fun and skilled, and my classmate (my only classmate, which was great), was very dedicated to studying as well. We improved a lot and very quickly, and passed level A1, then went through a part of the program of level A2.
The school's location is perfect, and all the staff were great, and the suggested activities as well. I loved my host family. I was lucky that we matched perfectly, but not everyone was as lucky as me, so I would suggest that the staff to try to match people with common interest , at least.
I really loved my experience!
The experience at Ahlan school was very interesting since I could immediately use the words I've learned in class and use them in the street. The school is modern, professional, and equipped with all the necessities.
The school staff were all wonderful. I found my teachers very professional and thanks to them I've learned more ways how to use the spoken Arabic. The administrative staff were all helpful and professional.
I did not choose an apartment from the school so I cannot comment on this matter, and I wanted to stay a bit longer but unfortunately I didn't had much time.
The school is perfectly organized. I attended one-on-one classes accompanied by my six-year old son. It was absolutely no problem. The whole school stuff was great with both of us. The chief manager made possible each schedule we needed, despite the school had a lot of students in that time.
I was totally happy with my teacher, who was a young girl, but good in language and motivated and creative to find ways to make me speaking on my own.
- The location from Ahlan Jordan is perfect: it needs like 10 minutes walk from a famous place in Amman (Circle Paris)
- My teacher was very very patient and he didn't just taught me Arabic language, often times we talked about the Arabic culture and why they talk the way they talk. Actually we became very good friends now.
- The administration staff were very easygoing and very helpful.
I can't say anything bad or criticize about Ahlan Jordan.
I liked everything. The classes were good; most of the teachers were nice. It was very easy to find the location. Since I stayed there for only a week, and I did not use most of facilities, I cannot give any detail about activities or housing. Nevertheless, I talked a lot with other students who stayed for months and had the same feedback.
My experience at Ahlan Jordan was very good. I really liked the classes and my teachers. The location is perfect, it is very nice and cozy area. During my stay, there were no enough activities for the students.
Ahlan Jordan is a small and humble place but not very organized. However, the teaching is good, the progression is quick and the teachers are committed. Students came from all over the world to learn Arabic here. Some of the students stayed with families, some in hotels and some in apartments. If you want luxury and order, this is not a place for you. If you like the casual way of living in the Arab world, and if you are not so wealthy, this is just the place for you.
What I would like to have known in advance is class hours and that classes start on Sundays.
Administration was a complete mess! As you don't get what you booked. Even people who booked directly at the school did not get what they paid for! This gave a very bad impression about Ahlan Jordan, even after the refund and apologies I would have continued for another 3 weeks but after all this experience I changed school together with 3 other students.
I had a good teacher, and the school was small so it had a warm atmosphere. The accommodation was okay and was in a good area. I recommend this school.
Ahlan Jordan is a great school and is also a big family. People look out for each other and help one another with the language all the time - not just in class. The teachers are knowledgeable and helpful. The Arabic I learned at the school was extremely useful in my work in refugee camps.
I want to thank everyone involved with the school and my teaching, It was an outstanding experience and I would recommend it to anyone. The teachers allowed me to tailor my program to meet my needs. The other students at the school were a diverse group from around the world. Most were from Europe; however there were some Americans. Most of the students were in their 20s and 30s, and had a variety of reasons for learning Arabic. I found the camaraderie with the other students and with the teachers one of the most enjoyable things at the school.
Many of the events at the school were well-attended by the students. These included language exchanges, dinners, informal lunches, and outings in town. All of these allowed opportunities to practice Arabic and learn specialized vocabulary which would be hard to remember in other situations.
I'm really satisfied because I've improved my level of Arabic a lot. 5 hours a day is tough but it's necessary for learning such a language. The class was small, with 4-5 students. The teachers were nice and their methods efficient.
About the activities and housing - I cannot talk a lot about that because I lived in a hotel and I did not join the organized activities for personal reasons. However, I heard nice things from the others about the activities and organized trips.
Moreover, the school is pretty well-located and the atmosphere is familial.
Everything was okay with the school, but the apartment was awful. It had no electricity more often than it did. It didn’t have any either the day before I traveled home. The toilet clogged up for 4 days, so we could not use it. The washing machine broke down on the last week. Although we reported it, nobody came to fix it during the whole week. There was no water in the apartment every Tuesday, which was really bad for us in 40 degree hot weather.
I really liked so much the Arabic lessons at Ahlan Jordan. The teachers are very professional with their work. They are, in the real sense of the word, experts in teaching Arabic, and they apply various methods aside from Arabic speaking exercises and student presentations. The textbook is also very useful and teaches both Arabic literature and culture.
Ahlan Jordan building is at a district in Amman, which is very nice and peaceful. It is also very close to the city center. The classrooms are not crowded at all and consist of four or five students in general.
Accommodation is also very close to the course building. Furthermore, each week they have travels to the touristic and historical places like Petra, the Dead Sea and Wadi Rum, which are organized.
I had 2 teachers: one was very good, as he cared about the student, and motivated us to learn and to speak in Arabic; the other one was weak in motivation.
I missed to have correct indications to find the school, as it is unusual to find taxi drivers who know the names of the streets in Amman, so we took more than one hour to find the school. When we finally arrived, people from Ahlan Jordan told us a couple of references to find the school the following days. In my opinion, this should be indicated before arriving at school the first day.
The courses at Ahlan are absolutely recommendable! The courses are tailored to everyone's individual needs and it's easy to change levels or from group to private classes. I made a lot of progress in one month. Most of the teachers are very capable and easy to approach for questions. The administration is also very flexible in case you want to change levels or timing. Ahlan organises a lot of activities and language cafés, which is great.
Logistically, Ahlan Jordan can however improve:
- When I arrived, the driver at the airport left because my plane was delayed. I was unable to reach both Laith Aziz and Martina on their phones. Hence, I was in a country I didn't know without driver.
- The guest family was a bit of a disappointment. The shower was broken and there was no fan in my room. There were also always a lot of people staying over, so at some point the mother asked to move her daughter into my room, although I paid for a single room. The house can host a maximum of 1 student, while we were staying there with 3 students. They were nice people, but did not really seem to care much... When I asked Ahlan to move, they were however very flexible and reimbursed the rent without too much delay.
- We went on a trip to Petra, during which many people were sick and we had to stop at several hospitals for their treatment (they had to be given infuses). This might have been the combination of food poisoning and a sun stroke, since they put us in open pick-up cars for a drive through the desert. Mr. Aziz however dealt with it very responsibly, so it was not too much of an issue in the end.
If Ahlan improves its logistics, it would be even more excellent. The school is located in a very nice neighbourhood - Jabal Al-Weibdeh. It's quite easy to find housing there and it is absolutely safe and pleasant. The atmosphere in Ahlan is also always very pleasant and relaxed. Many of the other students are very interesting and motivated. I would have loved to stay longer at Ahlan and learn more, but unfortunately I had to get back to work. I would absolutely recommend Ahlan to friends and family.
I really like the way of teaching. The teachers are all so nice.
About the location: In the e-mail they told me that my family was another. My apartment didn't lack anything; I had everything. The only thing was that the family was different from what I was told. Maybe it was an organization problem.
The activities were really nice, though we had problems in the Petra trip. Maybe it’s too concentrated; we spent a long time in the bus. I might divide the trip to Petra and Wadi Rum from the trip to Aqaba.
The Classes
The combination of the different types of classes was great. The morning classes focus on extending your vocabulary and grammar, whereas the afternoon classes (also called language activities) function as a more active use of the vocabulary without the use of the textbook. Instead of using the textbook, we practiced our vocabulary by acting, playing games, and listening to songs.
The Teachers
The teachers are very motivated and are eager to teach you the language. Most of them speak English very well, but a few of them could hardly say anything in English, which makes it a bit difficult to learn Arabic if you are a total beginner.
The Locations
With the colors and the paintings on the walls, the school has done its best to make the locations as motivating as possible. Some of the furniture, however, are not really that suitable for studying. In addition to this, I find the textbook good and relevant, but the copy (which you get from the school) is in most cases in bad quality.
The Activities
The school organizes trips to places such as Petra and Wadi Rum, which gives you a great opportunity to get closer to your fellow students.
The Accommodations
I was very lucky with my host family! They were really welcoming and caring!
This was my first experience abroad and I am very pleased with my time there. I stayed for a month and did not spend a single day bored or not doing something. I came with a pretty good level of spoken Arabic so my time here really helped refine my accent and common vocabulary. I had an expert teacher, Ilais, and he was very knowledge of Arabic and it's colloquial rules as well as explain it in English.
The apartment was a but rough, but I was there during the winter and heating is seemingly an issue in a lot of buildings. I came with an expectation that everything won't be as comfortable as it is at home so it wasn't bad in my eyes. I was roomed with some good roommates and they really made my time more comfortable and enjoyable.
Most all the students were friendly and willing to go out and enjoy their time in Jordan outside of classes, this really helped with getting me out and meeting new people and locals who were very friendly.
The weekend trips were all great and worth it in my opinion.
Since there were only 3-4 students there during the Christmas time, every one of us had his own private teacher. I was completely satisfied with mine, she was young but very professional, recognized immediately what I needed to practice, the lessons were funny, motivating, never boring, they provoked my creativity, and the most important thing was that I used every single new expression in my daily life in Jordan and will never forget them.
I lived near the school, just a 10 minute walk. The school was just changing its location into a better and bigger building several streets away, so it was a bit of mess with the construction, but they tried their best to be ready for the New Year.
I missed some activities organized by the school--travelling, music, dancing, language exchange--but it was due to a small number of students at that time. On the other hand, for anything I needed they were very helpful at any time of day...
The first 2 days I stayed with a family but it was very cold place [6 degrees in my room] and noisy and smoky [parties every night till 4am] without any privacy [no room key etc], so absolutely impossible to do my homework, to have a rest, to sleep etc. I decided to change and stayed the rest of my stay in the student apartment which was absolutely amazing--heating, warm water finally, wifi, and a view of Amman.
Jordan is a nice, calm and safe country and its people are friendly so it's easy to use the little Arabic you know in the "street life". I also managed to travel to Petra, Dana, Dead Sea, Madaba, and north to Umm Quais too. It was short and I would definitely stayed longer or would come back if I ever can.
I was very impressed with the teaching methods of Ahlan Jordan. I was constantly learning new things and I was really challenged. The teachers were very nice and helpful. The program directors instantly fixed any problems or concerns, whether it was with the class or the living. My apartment was way more than I expected, very nice and roomy. Everything was in a nice location as well. The neighborhood was very nice and not too far away from downtown.
The activities arranged by the school were very nice, especially because there is not really public transportation to sightseeing places. I wish I had taken the opportunity to go on all the trips offered, but they were a little overpriced.
The only thing I would say needed improving is that there is no review at all in the classes. Of course, the homework reviewed the material, but after that, many things were forgotten or students would need to interrupt the teacher to ask questions from the days before. Also, more practice in the city with the teacher would be helpful for beginning classes especially.
In total, I would definitely recommend the program because they will cater towards your learning needs and requests. I have studied several languages and this is one of the best programs and teaching curriculums I have experienced!
Classes: are very small (2-5 people)! --> The classes are intensive and you can learn a lot!
Teachers: Most of them are excellent! (class with them are interesting and they use different material)
Location: al-Weibdeh, where the school is located, is a very quiet and beautiful place in Amman! There are some nice cafés and it is very near from downtown!
Facilities: Everything ok!
Activities: The school organises every weekend amazing trips to all famous places in Jordan! They are always well organized! Also during the week there are different activities, like meeting locals to practice Arabic, or an oriental dancing course, a calligraphy workshop or lectures.
Housing: I lived with a host family. The host families are all located near the school (10min walk). It was a great experience to live with an Arabic family and it also helped to improve and use the Arabic language.
I really liked everything! All people from school are so nice and always help if there is any problem or question!
During my stay, the city of Amman was very safe and friendly. I enjoyed the food and weather very much, especially Arabian coffee, and kafaton halib. The school location was a three-minute walk from Luzmilla hospital and a five-minute walk from Paris Square, where I had some lunch and coffee. They had a supermarket too. The school offered me a very flexible class schedule. The staff were very friendly and were well-trained professionals. They had a school activity on Friday (short day trip to Jurasse or Dead Sea), which I missed because I arrived on Saturday and left on Friday. I am not sure if the tuition was on the right price range but I thought it was okay. Next time, I would plan to visit there for at least two weeks. Nevertheless, I learned a lot of words and phrases during my one-week stay.
I stayed in Ahlan Jordan one month and it was a very good experience. The teachers are great, the school is well-situated and the fact that the school organizes trips during the weekend is definitely a good point, otherwise I wouldn't have visited as many places in Amman as I did with the school.
Classes and teachers were professional and helpful. Classes were small, which was good because it gave you a lot of time with your instructor. The location was excellent and the facilities were adequate. The extracurricular activities were great, although they didn't always start on time. I found my own housing.
The first week I had to adjust, but then I started at school and started to learn a lot. In just 3 weeks I learned more words and more Arabic than I have in a week in my own country. The school had some amazing trips and it didn't take long to get to know some of the other people at the school. So overall this trip was worth every penny and Ahlan Jordan have some amazing teachers who do an amazing job!
If you don't know about the Arab alphabet or the Arab culture, you should go to Amman Jordan. You'll meet professional teachers to help you to learn the Arab language.
On the weekends there are many scheduled activities. You'll discover many monuments that one must visit in their life.
Unfortunately, you have to know that accommodation is not the standard European style.
But you have to know, you are in Amman close to the desert.
Anyway, it was a good experience and a good school to learn Arabic for the first time.
I loved the class, since it was really efficient. My teachers were really good. They practised with us a lot, they repeated with us a lot, they were always there if we needed something (not only during classes) and they were always helpful and kind. The location was good. I loved the activities. I had the chance to see the south, north and center of Jordan and it was cheap. So it was good. Our director Mr. Aziz was always helpful and available. He did a really great job. My housing was good as well; I was lucky with them. And, since Amman and the people were so great I decided to stay a little bit longer. So I stayed a half week longer. I definitely can recommend the school and the course, since I could improve my Arabic a lot and practise everything I learned with the Jordanian people outside the school. So it was a great, great experience. The staff was really like a family; I loved it.
I didn't like that my house was really far from the school (I had to take a taxi every day and drive for 15-20 minutes). But since I had a great family it was ok. I would love to know for the next time what kind of family awaits me (how many kids, boy or girl, any animals). I was surprised when I saw that my host family had a dog, and I really considered changing my host family, but they were so nice and I learned how to deal with the dog.
I like the teachers and the people who work there very much. They take good care of the students.
The lessons were well-organized, teachers are good at understanding your needs, but the location was a bit far. I would have preferred to walk home from school. Having wi-fi in school was helpful, but it would have been useful at home, too. The tour was a lot of fun and beautiful. It was my mistake for choosing an intensive course with homework and did not have time for anything else. The availability of the staff makes you feel like you are in a big family.
I can highly recommend Ahlan Jordan in Amman. I was there for two weeks (only) in mid January and I was surprised by the warmth and hospitality I experienced from both the school administration, the teachers, the other students, and my host family. The school will easily fit the education program to your level, which helps getting the full benefit of the education.
I had studied Arabic for about four months prior to my stay in Amman and I was surprised how little I understood. It was hard work trying to understand what was going on all the time - especially with my host family, who didn't speak much English. I can therefore recommend to have learned some basic Arabic before choosing to stay with a host family. But at the school you can easily be an absolute beginner, some of the teachers speak very good English and they have good programs suited for beginners.
On the weekends the school arranges cultural trips to all around Jordan which gave me the unique chance to experience a lot even though I was only away for two weeks. In my opinion, two weeks isn't enough for a stay at Ahlan Jordan. I just got used to the way everything worked and then I had to leave. So if you have the chance to stay for at least a month that would definitely be preferable. But if you just want to get a taste of it, two weeks will work out - or so it did for me!
Liked it all, especially the personal attention and the staff's desire to help. Location is good and the price is right. All in all, nothing negative to say, I thoroughly enjoyed my time and will take further courses here if able.
Everything was just so perfect! Teachers, school, trip! I improved my Arabic a lot and teachers were so sweet!
The teachers were the best part of the trip! I've talked and used my Arabic in so many ways to express situations that made my skills evolve a lot! Discussing poetry and social and world affairs, like for example defining what freedom of speech is, allows me to use the language in new ways that go beyond the borders of usual book-teaching.
